The American Cocker Spaniel
The American Cocker Spaniel is the smallest member of the Gundog Group. Originally descending from the English Cocker Spaniel, the American Cocker Spaniel is smaller dog with a square chiselled head.
American Cockers are extremely sociable animals and rely on company. They do not cope well being left alone for long periods of time, so if you have a busy lifestyle, not enough time to spend with your dog, or work long hours the American Cocker Spaniel would probably not be a dog for you. They are faithful, happy, loyal dogs that love to follow you around all day sitting by your feet.
The American Cocker Spaniel also has an abundant coat that requires regular grooming. A cocker with a show coat is bathed once a week and brushed every other day. You can groom your American Cocker yourself, though you will require special equipment and it would be advisable to have a breeder or professional groomer show you how.
American Cocker Spaniels are fairly active dogs that require regular exercise. They get on well with children and other animals and make great family pets.
